Michael W. Parks is originally from Western New York. He attended Cornell University and, later, Arizona State University, graduating with a degree in History. Mr. Parks earned his law degree at the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. While in law school, Mr. Parks was on the law review staff and the Board of Editors of the Pacific Law Journal.
Mr. Parks was admitted to the California bar in 1991. He is also admitted before the United States District Court for the Central, Northern, Southern and Eastern Districts of California and before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal.
As a partner at Schimmel & Parks, APLC, Mr. Parks emphasizes representation of individuals and consumers who have been injured by employers, insurance companies, manufacturers, landlords, and large corporations. His practice areas include consumer law, class actions,insurance coverage and bad faith, sexual harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, personal injury, premises liability and corporate misappropriation of ideas and property on behalf of plaintiffs. In addition to representing injured victims in individual claims, Mr. Parks has also litigated numerous class actions, collective actions and obtained millions of dollars on behalf of hundreds of injured employees and consumers. Prior to forming Schimmel & Parks, APLC with Alan Schimmel, Mr. Parks had his own law practice and previously spent 12 years practicing at a large corporate defense firm as an associate and a partner. His prior experiences add to the professional enjoyment he gains from assisting individuals who have been injured.
Mr. Parks also enjoys donating time to pro bono activities for the benefit of the public and the courts. Mr. Parks has participated as a Settlement Officer for the Second District Court of Appeal settlement conference program. Mr. Parks has also volunteered at the annual "Law Day" program at the Torrance Courthouse sponsored by the South Bay Bar Association. Mr. Parks is currently a member of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, the South Bay Bar Association and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Mr. Parks is also a member of the Benjamin Aranda III Inns of Court. Additionally, Mr. Parks is a member of the State Bar Employment and Litigation sections and served on the State Bar Rules and Legislation Subcommittee. Mr. Parks and his family are proud supporters of public education through their local PTA and fundraising efforts.
