Patent defects can be easily detected by homeowners; however, latent defects create more of a problem. Mr. Schimmel says, “If left undiscovered, latent or hidden defects can seriously compromise the integrity of your home and your investment.”
Mr. Schimmel recommends hiring a licensed contractor to perform a walk-through and provide an unbiased, professional assessment of your home’s structure. It is also critical to consult with a construction defect and insurance lawyer who can educate you on the statutory limitations to file a claim and help you navigate the insurance claims progress.
